Using the DFE Dynabook C40 again...

 

 

Here is what happens to pastel page colours in OneNote. I thought OneNote was broken...

Wow! i wonder how much these retail for, Luckily we have been given some Dell laptops from the dfe, i consider us luckily after the feedback i have seen on the dynabooks!

I have the Geobook 1e, Dell 3190, Dynabook a30, c50, and HP 225g7 . I think the Dynabooks are actually the best of the bunch. (as much as I gripe) RJ45, upgradable mem and HDD, actual m.2 sata drive!

 

The dynabooks also support usbc charging and display alt mode so can work with our docking stations. I haven't spent much time with the HP 255 G7's to be fair.

 

2x dynabook A30s arrived with dead batteries and refuse to charge but they're being fixed under warranty.

I'm unsure what ones you ended up with but the Dell 3190s that turned up on our doorstep came with 120GB m.2 Sata SSDs though the cheapest ones come with 64GB eMMC storage. The Geobooks can be upgraded with m.2 drives but unfortunately don't come with them. Also, I've noticed the casing that's used by Dynabook seems similar to that used by Geobook.

Our Dell 3190s are the 64GB eMMC units. I thought great, these can be upgraded with a M.2 drive only to open one and find that the M.2 slot is not even soldered onto the motherboard where the pin headers are. I mean why not solder the slot on the board? That being said, the screen quality and colour seems pretty decent on them and the HP 255s we got.

You only get the slot if you pick the option that fills it with something when you buy them. I bought a Vostro 3560 back in 2013 but didn't buy it with a mSata drive simply because it was that much more expensive but I simply thought that I could just fill the slot later when I could afford it but like these 3190s, it didn't come with the slot.

 

My guess is that Dell don't put it there for 2 reasons: 1. Cost. 2. It allows them to sell you a different model later down the line. I like Dell for a lot of reasons, this not being one of them.

I was impressed with our initial HP DFE laptops but since then.. I don't know if things got bad or just terribly worse..

 

Netbooks > terrible screen size to work effectively.

Celeron > does the DFE ever work on IT? You can literally feel the slowness when attempting to run anything for the first time

Geobooks > celeron and netbooks! Ever tried to run a teams meeting on these and load up a few word documents...

Dynabooks - just a big screen version of the Geo.

Dell - Seem to be a nice version of a netbook but we haven't rebuilt these yet. We struggled to image them and have a few dell USB > ethernet bits ordered.

 

And don't get me started on the first lot of instructions with /.local user etc....

 

Things like this frustrate me because it shows an absolute lack of experience with kids and schools. We had schemes over the years and that really showed us a thing or two.
