5G Router/Modem

I am looking to move to a 5G internet connection are there any 5G modems/routers I can purchase so I can then connect into my existing pfSense setup that come with any recommendations?

 

I know the likes of EE provide a router but after something a bit different that I can mount an external aerial on the roof and pop the cable through the roof and go from there. Had a look but not much standing out to me so wanted to see if anyone one here had anything yet.

When I looked, pretty much the only one out there was the Huawei one provided by the lines of 3, Vodafone et al. Spec here: https://consumer.huawei.com/en/routers/5g-cpe-pro/. It does the job and I seem to remember it does have ports for external antenna.

 

It is a consumer level piece of equipment though, and not only that you can’t put it into bridge mode so if you use it with Pfsense etc there will be double NATing.

That is the same one provided by EE but is pictured with a small antenna in their picture so sure will be able to get a better one to mount outside. I need to get hold of a 5G device and see what speeds are like here before I look to go any further.

 

It does appear to support bridge mode but may be restricted by the operator. At the minute I have to go back to double NAT with my VM router (testing and have to take it out of modem only mode) so just put the pfsense box in DMZ and done it that way.

 

Need to do some more digging and see what my options are really.

I got a teltonika RUT955.

 

It has a lot of features but seems to need rebooting every once in a while. 2 SIM slots, external aerials, WiFi hotspot, 4 ethernet ports one can be configured as WAN backup etc. Support seems flakey.

 

If it weren't for the needed reboot I'd recommend it.

+1 for Teltonika. I've used the 3G version for solar PV farm monitoring. The ones we have out there are still working fine and don't hang. From memory there is a watchdog timer. If it fails X pings in y minutes it restarts. On the older models you could also send a text message to restart/check status.

So with the Teltonika can you use it in bridge mode? I want to link to an existing pfSense as another interface and but have it as just a modem say?
