Head Asking That Teachers Have Teams Admin

Hi All

 

As the title says, my HT is asking that I give Teams Admin access to the Teaching staff. The reason for this is so they can create Teams.

 

I've held back, because I think that allowing this access will lead to duplicate Teams being set up, therefore duplicate SharePoint and multiple email addresses.

 

I also believe that due to the complexities of the Teams Admin, I'm concerned that someone will f*** up. I'm no expert, but I'm very careful with everything I do in the Admin portal.

 

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

You don't need Teams admin permissions to create Teams that can be done under the GroupCreation attribute, so it just adds the "Add Team" option within Teams rather than using the admin interface. But yes as you said it can lead to duplicates etc

 

We've literally just gone down this process, and have it agreed that it's only higher level people in departments, so HoY/HoD etc, then anyone below them requests it from their Head, so if it does make a mess of their department it's their own doing

No need for admin rights as @Steve21 has said (that way madness lies)

 

I have talked about this a few times and there are a ton of ways to skin this cat, we use our helpdesk system. The users puts in a request and we use Flow and other tools like PS to check the request and setup the team (this includes checking that certain words are not in the name and the team has two owners, checks for duplicate teams and such likes). You could use a sharepoint list with a form and get flow to create the teams based on that list (is another way). I could go on.... Happy to talk to anyone directly about how to get a service wrapper set up for Teams creation even offer some insights in the Flow/ code to achieve this if that would help PM me.

go to the teams admin page, go to dashboard and use the quick setup. Apply teacher policy to teacher accounts and pupil policy to pupil account. if you're using SDS have SDS create the teacher and pupil security groups.

I'm going to ask a stupid question here but I've seen it with my own eyes, some users think they need a "team" to be able to communicate with each other or hold a meeting when in fact you can use the chat function. We don't use all functions of teams and mainly used as a chat and meeting area but worth asking what they actually want to do as they might not be doing something right as such in the first place.
