Android tablets - how to manage them

I have been given X amount of android tablet devices (not my decision to purchase these) as we use iPads in school managed by Apple school and lightspeed. Is there a FREE or CHEAP way to manage android devices?

I would like to set these up in groups for different key stages, push out apps, updates and lock down settings such as download own apps.

Do you have G Suite? I noticed Google have made a lot of changes to device policies and Android app deployments recently which might make this a usable system finally. BTW we have Chromebooks so I cant really help with the Androids.

Thank you for your time in replying. We don’t have G suite as a school, only have a personal G account that we use to store forms, photos albums and some whole school videos

I’ve recently added a bunch of Android tablets to our G Suite/Workspace (which is tied in as an Azure app so auth is through M365) which gives a pretty decent level of control. Users sign into them with their domain credentials, I can then control apps, remote wiping etc

 

It’s free, after all, though takes a while to set up.
