Hi,

 

The PE department have asked for dartfish but management don't like how expensive it is. Does anyone know of any cheaper or free software that would give similar functions.

 

They really just want to be able to slow video down, take snapshots, break down a scene into multiple snapshots and be able to annotate the video/snapshots.

 

I don't think they need the editing to be live. It's more likely that they will go back to the classroom to look at it.

Well I can't give you another solution for this, but I can say that our staff have been using dartfish this year, and it seems to do the job well.. (They use if for analysing their golf swing).

Dartfish is very good but like you mentioned is Expensive.

 

i also know of Webbsoft but not sure of the costs for that.

Take a look at cSwing. Less than £100 a seat and it does everything Dartfish does. It doesn't have the enormous bank of content with it but some of that is downloadable free anyway (from erm... Dartfish) and a county can soon build its own bank of resources.

 

I got it from Proshot Solutions. Give 'em a call.

Please have a look at Kinovea, it's an open source solution that may suits your needs.

It doesn't have an equivalent for all the Dartfish functions (yet) but the 0.7.2 version that was released just a few days ago does Key Images comments and drawings, saving selection back to video, batch snapshots, etc.

Will be playing with this as we have had Kandle and it has just ended up as too tricky to install due to the DRM they have implemented. This looks fairly clean and simple to use but powerful enough for the PE staff!

Hi,

I also noticed that the website cannot be accessed from China, it's pretty inconvenient. Unfortunately there not much I can do.

 

I will send you the latest stable release (0.7.10).

Just so you know, there is also an experimental version (0.8.1) with new features (and new bugs) if you aren't afraid :)

 

Edit: Wait a minute, it's 9MB, I can't send this through mail… Hmm, I will try to mirror it somewhere else.

By the way I would like to ask a new feature of automatic trajectory follow which can automatically detect the successive positions of the trajectory after the initial position mark in a video file.

There is a semi-automated tracking function.

You first add a drawing of type "cross", then right-click it and choose "Track Trajectory" in the contextual menu.

Then, when you move forward in the video, it will try its best to macth the object and will draw the trajectory.

 

If you aren't satisfied with what it came up with, you can adjust it manually at any time. (The tracking is somewhat easily lost, as the tracked object passes behind something or change shape, etc.)

 

I you can reach blip.tv, there is a quick demo of it at the end of this video.

Ok, a range of french IP from the web host were blacklisted by the chinese Great Firewall.

I changed the geolocalisation of the site to england, and it should be reachable from China within the next few days :)

I am very pleased to tell you that I can get access to Kinovea - Video Analysis Software for Sports now. You are doing marvellous work!

The semi-automated tracking function works but in some case it loses the target. Is there any way to upgrade the image recognition precision without losing the speed? In the world of image recogintion, there are a lot of algorithms as I heard of.

 

If the tracking function can automatically track the change of angle in a video, it will be more helpful. I thought the way as to place three cross markers along the apex and two lines, and then to compute the angle frame by frame.

Yes, the tracking can be lost a bit too easily.

I've started to look into more advanced algorithms for it, since they will be needed for future functions anyway. However I don't know when exactly I will be able to start working on this, as the todo-list is growing and priorities need to be defined.

And yes, the algo I'm considering are scale and rotation invariant. I expect them to slow things down, but robustness is probably more important.

Now I can access to the homepage. Thank you very much. You are doing excellent work!

I wish kinovea will be evoluted to a versatile and sophisticated sport analysis solution. If the tracking function becomes more accurate, it will be better. I wonder if there is any good and rapid image recogintion algorithm suitable for it. Moreover if an angle can be automatically tracked, it will be more powerful.
