Jaan Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 We've been told that part of the data migration process, that user defined fields (mainly additional parental consents) and linked documents are NOT migrated as part of the data transfer to bromcom. How have schools that have already been through this process approached this step?
ajp233 Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Pretty sure that if you create a report in SIMS to pull out that data, then the equivalent fields can be created in Bromcom. Once the fields have been created, go to the Student list page, select your pupils and then select Actions > Manual Data Export, set the data source to User Defined Fields and select a UDF and then click Export. This will generate a csv file in the correct format for re-importing. Open the csv file and populate with the info pulled from SIMS. You can then return to the Bromcom Student list page, select your students and then use Actions > Manual Data Import. 1

Export documents based on UPN then import to bromcom with manual mapping.
NickBryson Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 I tried something similar as ajp suggests and it was a disaster with mismatched records and time intensive. I then tried Recordlink - RecordLink eXport and worked like a dream. Very easy, quick and avoids using the UPN which is frowned upon.
Bromcom_Support Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Hi @Jaan The process described by Aajp233 is correct although it looks like NickBryson ran into some complications. If you do get stuck or need some assistance please get in touch with the deployment team and they can help you. With regards to the documents, if you export these you can import via My Documents > Import. You can match via UPN and the on screen wizard will guide you through the rest of the process. Hope this helps Bromcom Support

ajp233 Posted February 12, 2021 Posted February 12, 2021 Why are you banging on about UPN matching?? Even the government use it......schools can download statutory results from Key to Success by uploading the UPNs of pupils they have on roll.
Jaan Posted February 23, 2021 Author Posted February 23, 2021 Thanks guys, User defined fields sorted as described above. Now it's the linked documents. Import doesn't seem to be an issue....... it's getting them out of SIMs that is. Think i'll start another thread titled "How do i extract linked documents from SIMs so they can be imported to Bromcom". Somebody must have done it as part of the migration.

SalamanderSoft can export from SIMS, although only student information not staff (At least last time I checked before Christmas) https://www.salamandersoft.co.uk/

I'm looking for a feature list somewhere No it's not free. I can't find it on there website but if you contact them you'll get a price. We're still in the testing period so we've not used the process yet but intend on doing. 1
panosthegreat Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 For our linked documents we paid someone to save linked document off SIMS with the UPN in the file name. Took 6 weeks to do 1400 students. We're now at 50% of our 10GB limit..
DODICT Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 pretty sure groupcall offer this service and prob cheaper than 6 weeks of temp work ...
