Wasn't completely sure where to post this but It is a future thing that will have a major impact.

 

My school is on the list and the talk is they're going to replace at least half the school.

My school was originally constructed in the 50s with Laingspan prefabricated building techniques which are falling apart and can't be repaired. I wonder what the criteria for selecting them was? The geographic spread isn’t very wide. By my count only 5 of the 50 are in London or further south.

My daughters' school is on the list but expect they will have both left by the time any work has been completed.

The secondary school my kids attended is on there too. My 3 month old grandson lives in the catchment area, I wonder if it will be done by the time he gets to go there.

They've been doing surveys and inspections on my school since September, our Head says they might start in September.

Yes, we are on the list too, and it was the Laingspan issue which clinched it for us too.

Although the front of our site was new in 2011 the back half was a refurb of a late 60's building.

They must have surveyed it at the time of the new build but for whatever reasons (i have my own views on that, BSF related) it was not actioned - they certainly knew about the issues with that building technique well before then.

 

Aim is to start building in Sept - finish by Sept 2023.

They have been doing survey data collection and prep work for months, but only about 4 of us knew about it here and we were not allowed to say anything even to colleagues until the announcement this morning.

Makes me wonder if some of these schools have already been rebuilt as it says on that one 'In 2006 we moved from our previous site on Warren Hills Road to a brand new purpose-built school on Meadow Lane'?

I wonder who the MP is in those areas? Or who the main contractors are going to be?

ETA - THAT WAS A LUCKY GUESS!

[h=3]Government targets marginal seats[/h] But analysis by Schools Week found a third of the rebuilding projects announced by the government today are in marginal seats – including several ‘red wall’ constituencies won by the Conservatives in 2019.

Well, yes, we have, but only partly.

 

If you looked at our building from the front it looks very sleek and modern, but if you go round the back and start lifting ceiling tiles its a different issue. The older bit leaks, is never warm, and is aprarently, quite dangerous.

Of course, they should have done it right in the first place, and done it cheaper and quicker as a result, but if they wanted to do it right they wouldn't have used the BSF process to do it, or employed Carillion (in our case) to do it.

 

I do agree though, that this seems somewhat geographically biased - I wonder why that might be ?

A lot/all of the worst secondary school buildings in London were replaced by BSF and many primaries also had rebuilds around 10 years ago.
