nathan Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Hi All, I'm just trying to get my head around Microsoft licensing I'm looking to purchase M365 for Faculty licenses and i'm then trying to work out what entitlement to Intune we would get. My reading so far tells me that; - A single M365 A3 for Faculty will give 40 student benefit licenses. (according to https://www.techdirectors.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/M365-A3-Overview.pdf) - I've also read that for each M365 A3 for Faculty license we will get 15MDM Intune Licenses (according to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/fundamentals/licenses-assign) My question is (presuming the above is correct): Do each of the 50 student benefit licenses also get 15MDM Intune licenses?
snagrat Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 You only need 1 license per user so you would license M365 for Faculty and get the students for free

johnlevis Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 The Tech Directors document looks like it's referring to an EES agreement, you may have an OVS-ES so M365 might not be an option, depending on what you're looking to do. Feel free to get in touch if you want to go over options. John Levis | Software and Solutions Specialist Tel: 0114 321 8609 [email protected] very-pc.co.uk 1
BroganOs Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 I have the same question as the OP, will my one Faculty license will give me intune licences for students also?
IT_JB Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 (edited) I understand that side of it, but what about Intune licenses? Obviously there can and will be more devices than staff From my understanding it's 15x your combined A3 faculty and student licences. e.g. 100x Faculty A3 (Paid) 4000x Student A3 (Free) Max devices = 61,500 The numbers are so large you don't really need to worry about it after you get a few A3 faculty licences. nathan Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 On a slightly different topic, what happens with Win10 Enterprise? is that the same as Intune? How do you download the ISO or get the key?
IT_JB Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 On a slightly different topic, what happens with Win10 Enterprise? is that the same as Intune? How do you download the ISO or get the key? The A3 provides a digital user licence for windows 10 enterprise. For example if the machine is Win 10 Pro and an A3 user logs in, it elevates the version to enterprise. If a non A3 user logs in it stays at the devices activated version. There is no key so you aren't able to activate a machine using this. Also, the machine has to be running at least Win 10 Pro to be able to have the A3 licence digitally upgrade to Enterprise. This can be a problem if you are reimaging old machines and no longer have an OVS licence, or you purchase Win 10 home devices. 1
