mrhall Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Someone has suggested that we ought to backup all our Office-365 material? That what we're keeping in Office365 - like email, work in Teams or Sharepoint - is not guaranteed by Microsoft - and so we ought to purchase something. Anyone else done this? Seems to be several thousand a year - which wasn't a cost we'd anticipated. Thanks
chaplic Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 I think you need to fact-check that statement around backup for commercial office365 Most of my work is for large FTSE companies, none of them backup O365, but may have retention policies in place. Some data cannot be backed up to allow restoration in usable format. Plus, what are you going to restore it to when everyone has 50GB mailboxes and 5TB of data?
KK20 Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 we use iamcloud cloud drive mapper to backup our major sharepoint libraries to onsite, I backup weekly. Why? Because I was told to by our SMT. We have retention policies in place for day to day recovery. I use our previous pair of arrays that we had left over when we migrated offsite. When the arrays die I do not plan on continuing the backup. We have never needed to use them and we dont back up office 365 email.
RobFuller Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 Do you have a QNAP or Synology box on site? I speak from experience from a cloud loss. If you cannot afford to loss it, make a plan.
Edu-IT Posted January 27, 2021 Posted January 27, 2021 It's a decision you take on whether you 1) can afford it 2) are willing to lose the data IF it was to disappear. You may feel that some mailboxes are worth more than others, if you're looking at email backup, in which case you could just protect those.
