Thought this may interest some (@mikeprice?).

 

Wish your bike was an ebike, or would like one but think it would be a thief magnet? Clip have a $400 motor in pre-orders that can clip on and off your existing bike.

...and the review on the home page is from "James.S, 33 | IT Manager, NYC", so it must be true! If I ever mention getting an e-bike, my wife looks at me with a deep frown - I think she regards in the same way as me getting a mobility scooter!

Hmmmm

I have come across a lot of these things - and a lot of discussions about batteries, charging times etc etc

 

and this all looks a bit ambitious

 

firstly - friction drive systems were abandoned many years ago due to impracticability - and they tend to wear out the tyres like crazy and don;t react well to wet conditions

 

secondly - range is very limited - and there is a tendency to over estimate - but based on the charge time it looks dodgy - my bike can do about 40 miles on one charge - but it takes 4-5 hours to go from flat to fully charged - if this can charge in 45 minutes the battery capacity is quite low

 

 

but mostly - the motor power is claimed to be 450W - which is not road legal in the UK or EU

 

and, of course, it looks terrible

 

There are loads of upgrade kits for bikes ===> ebikes on the market - you can convert a normal bike to ebike for cheaper than that
