WDS Imaging fails on Dell laptop

We're trying to deploy an image to a Dell laptop (new inspiron model) and it seems to go through the whole WDS process happily, albeit very very slowly compared to other devices. Even the Inject Drivers stage takes minutes!

 

After hours the operating system image is finally finished, and the laptop boots to the blue screen, with an iastor.sys error

 

I've added the Intel storage matrix drivers to WDS and MDT but it has made no difference - so I'm a bit stuck as to a) why the process is soooo slow and b) why it fails after 'succesfully' finishing and blue screens

In the BIOS of the laptop, try changing the storage controller mode from RAID to ACHI mode. When I had RAID mode turned on, I had all sorts of issues including BitLocker and imaging them.

Yeah I've done that as well - it didn't seem to make a difference to speed or the end result, but it was the only drivers Dell offered.

Have you checked the smsts.log in C:\windows\ccm\logs\ - (best viewed with CMTrace found in C:\windows\CCM). That'll give you more to go on as to what's happening.

It was set to RAID so I switched it to AHCI mode, but it didn't make any difference. What I don't get is how slow the whole thing is, it takes 5-10 minutes to inject drivers, but on another (older) PC this stage flies past in seconds
