[android tablet] Lineage OS

Got given a Samsung Note 10.1 (GT-N8010) for free. Whilst mainly "OK" net access was limited due to it being on the official "latest" version of Android for it (4.Something). Took the plunge and went to Lineage 16 (Android 9) via XDA - 10 + 11 also available, but sound less stable. Pleasantly surprised; it's still not the fastest, but much better than it was - and net access is OK (if a little slow).

 

The teachers at one of my sites all have the same model, and they're not getting used due to slowness/poor net access. I'm tempted to flash one and give it to someone who might report back sensibly, but I'm unsure of any legal/licensing/security/other implications - they're all standalone, so no worries about using an MDM. Anyone got any insight?

Although I'm not 100% sure that the wireless connectivity is that stable, I'm gonna try a .

I did look last time, but like you couldn't find anything about commercial use. It is open source - but the versions for individual devices are customised by individual developers.

 

I think they'd 1) struggle to make a case, given that you've looked for copyright notices and can't find them and 2) would be highly unlikely to pursue a school using a version a couple of years old on a dozen devices.

 

I used various versions of Lineage OS on my only phone for years and found it 100% stable.
