Oooo!

This has potential.

Set it around the same time period as The Madalorian, find someone great to play Wedge Antilles as squadron leader, borrow heavily from the Rogue Squadron book series and you're on to a winner!

It depends when they set it in all honesty.

If it's set close to the sequel trilogy then he can play an embittered squadron commander who has seen too many wars and doesn't fly anymore (until the grand finale).

However I think they would be clever to set it around the same time as Mando to cash in and tell a story of Rogue Squadron being the elite unit it was in the books. Wedge in his prime taking on the hardest missions.

It would give them scope to bring in a couple of Legends pilots too. Notably Corran Horn, Gavin Darklighter and Tycho Celchu.

Poor Derek Lawson! No digital de-ageing for him in your heart?

Denis Lawson is going to be furious when he finds out he's been recast and yet they still had to digitally deage his replacement :D:p

They literally need to do Top Gun meets Independence Day (the first one) but star wars.

Surely they couldn't ruin it... Could they?

Sadly now, we have the law of averages working against us :(

Start managing your expectations. The film will be an original story "honouring" what's come before: https://www.ign.com/articles/patty-jenkins-star-wars-rogue-squadron-movie-is-not-a-video-game-adaptation

“[in the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie] we're doing something original with great influence from the games and the books,” Jenkins told IGN in an interview. “There's a lot of things being acknowledged and understood about the greatness of all of those things, but yes, it's an original story and I'm so psyched to do it."

Well, I didn't expect a straight adaptation of games and books. No one is going to start making a potentially billion dollar grossing movie and be beholden to what will be a 25 year old game at the time of the movie's release.

Looks like Rogue Squadron has been grounded, or at least put in a holding pattern. Director Patty Jenkins has both Wonder Woman 3 and Cleopatra (both starring Gal Gadot) to shoot first so it can't make its scheduled release date. Other Star Wars movies are in various stages of production, but it could be a while before any hit the big screen.

I wouldn't wait for Patty Jenkins if Wonder Woman 1984 is anything to go by!

...and it's back off, along with Kevin Feige's project. Taika Waititi’s movie still seems to be on, though.

Patty Jenkins has that Colin Trevorrow vibe. One interesting small indie movie, and then given far too much to handle.
