Can anyone suggest a way to block iMessage for students who bring their own devices? we use RM's Safetynet for our internet filtering, but are open to a third party solution if that makes it possible.

If you had an Application layer firewall you could probably do this easily.

You could try blocking from BYOD range to 17.0.0.0/8 port 5223.

The above would probably work, but I question the usefulness of the exercise. All that will happen is that either the student will turn off WiFi, or that the device will revert to SMS instead.

Whilst that will always be the case unless we put the students in a faraday cage with no cellular communications able to get through :-)

If the students are using iMessage during lesson time when they should not be then that is a classroom management issue as well.
