LeMarchand Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 Was forced to buy iPads to run Software X (that will run on Windows and Android) and because they will transform T&L and they're shiny. After chasing them, Apple finally let us in the cult and the devices show in Apple School Manager, which also recognises that we want to use Lightspeed and I have changed the "Default device assignment" for iPads to Lightspeed. Lightspeed has (as far as I can tell) been set up to enroll devices. Turn one on, follow the setup steps, then what? The device doesn't show on School Manager or Lightspeed. So far, setting up an entire GSuite (or whatever they are calling it now) domain was easier than this!

If the devices were enrolled before you changed that default the devices will need manually assigned. if you go to Devices and select all and point them to your ls server its should push them in. takes half hour to sync usually though Edited November 12, 2020 by DGardiner 1

Why didn't it say that in any of the docs/pages (and there were many of those!) that I read? So I literally just turn one on and wait?
DGardiner Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 if its already done its initial activation you will need to set it up then do a factory reset to force it to download the "new" activation instructions. usually takes 15/30 minutes to all sync up as long as the LS end is configured as required. i know in jamf i can see the assigned devices status so can see when theyre ready - not sure how this compares to current ls The default setting is pretty much When new device is assigned to dep auto assign it to this mdm server. so you should be good going forward 1
LeMarchand Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 Had already done the profile, so I think I'm good to go. I'll wait a bit to see if any changes online and then give the device another factory reset. I though everything was supposed to be simple with Apple stuff...

Lightspeed is crap to be honest - Looks like you also have to Manually assign the DEP profile too.. See Assign a DEP profile to devices section https://help.lightspeedsystems.com/s/article/dep-how-to-setup-device-enrollment-program There seems to be a dewfault profile option on the screenshot but not sure how you toggle it! edit: nvm its here https://help.lightspeedsystems.com/s/article/dep-configuring-a-default-dep-profile Edited November 12, 2020 by DGardiner
LeMarchand Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 By some miracle I'd already done that. I'm hoping the step I missed out was this one that you pointed me at.
DGardiner Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 In that case if you go into LS as shown below, you will see the devices assigned and that they have the setup profile assigned against them - if so you should be good to reset/enrol something 2
LeMarchand Posted November 12, 2020 Author Posted November 12, 2020 OMG!!! Now I can see them in LS. Thank you so much!
