Does anyone actively produce their own 'photo day'?

 

I'm sure we all know the format, students come in external photographer snaps away and then uploads to their website where you can select over priced packages to receive photos of your little cherubs.

 

Has anyone tackled this themselves, the photo side of things is straight forward, I'm more interested in the hosting of images, a generic username and password to view low res / watermarked photos and supplying a download only option once payment has been confirmed.

 

I'd be interested in peoples thoughts on this, I think it could become a significant saving for a school.

What is the uptake, do parents still buy these? Everyone has a phone/camera these days so taking pictures of their little darlings is an everyday occurrence where as years ago it wasn't. Obviously the school uses them in the MIS but surely a camera and a backdrop this could be done yourselves at far less cost?

 

There are sites you can buy into and do similar with, have a look at event type photographers or wedding ones get a feel for what they are using and have a look at costs from there.

It can take a bit of skill and organisation to get a whole school photograped to a reasonable quality, although it's a solveable problem. Surley there must already be a modern web-based platform with the functionality to take photos (I'd go for a DSLR connected by USB to a laptop, with photos going straight into the system, no swapping memory cards around) and match them up with pupil IDs, exporting for common MIS formats, maybe also handling parent authentication and payments.

Sounds like a thing not to do in a pandemic.

 

The only reason to do it after the vaccine would be because it was a professional photographer who could spend time getting better portrait photos than your smartphone camera AI can do. If they're not spending at least 5 mins per pupil then that's not going to happen.
