We have some very, very old no name/brand Android Tablets that have sat in the 'cupboard of ill-informed IT purchases by SLT' for a few years now.

I have been approached by a HLTA, to appropriate these and repurpose them for SEN children.

Originally these were 'managed' by a free/legacy version of Cisco Meraki.

Now I have remembered the log-in details for the MDM and can see the tablets in the Meraki SM dashboard.

The thing is the devices themselves seem to have the Meraki app, but will not talk to the MDM server.

It has been so long since I last looked at these, can anyone see what might have gone wrong?

I was tempted to try and enrol them in our current Meraki, but it looks like enrolling Androids has to be done through 'Android Enterprise' which means using Domains or a Meraki deployment that will apparently make changes to our other Meraki networks... Just seemed a little over the top for 5 Android Tablets that I need minimal managent of!

Are they just too old to manage...?

I have tried to re-enrol them but it just sits 'downloading' the profile and never installs it or contacts the server to actually enrol.

In answer to my question and for the 'Wisdom of the Ancients'....

The answer is nope...

EDIT: In case that page ever disappears...

Android 4.x support was removed from Systems Manager a little while back. It's likely that currently enrolled devices will still connect, but we removed the ability to enroll new devices.

Our goal is to keep SM's OS/platform support as broad as possible but Android v4 had been out for 8 years and the addition of Android v10 meant that it was time to "shift up" in the list of supported versions.
