Currently, one teacher is connecting his MacBook Air (early '14) to the screen in his main teaching room via a thunderbolt - hdmi adaptor, this works most of the time but when it does there are tiny flashing spots on screen. These only show when this setup is in place, other devices are fine. Aside from having to hard wire and therefore having something else to clean we are coming to the end of 2020 and should be able to cast.

 

Naturally, Apple TV would be the straightforward route to go, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had bought/used something else (cheaper!)? Is there already a PC in the room?

You could run AirServer on it.

Is the screen/projector networked (or networkable)? It may be worth checking the manual to see if you can mirror to it directly. Our SMART panels and Epson laser projectors are both capable of this. We still use AirServer in other locations, though.

Raspberry pi with Kodi? has apple air connect option which I've seen used.

Cheers all, now I've had a proper look at the screen it's a Clevertouch with the built in android box that allows casting via the Clevershare app, but the android box wasn't connected to the wifi so Clevershare wasn't running!
