cheaptonersucks Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Hi, Some users are reporting that OneDrive is not displaying in file explorer. We still use roaming profiles (I know...) which is probably why this is occurring. We are running windows 10 1909, and was wondering if anyone knows how to deploy OneDrive for business, without having to re-install Office 2016? I think the problem is that the version of OneDrive that is part of windows 10 uses appdata, and the roaming profiles are breaking the appdata settings? Thanks
psydii Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Deploy the exe downloadable from Microsoft? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/per-machine-installation 1

Thanks We are using the per machine installer where we download the OneDrive.exe and use the /allusers switch https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/per-machine-installation#:~:text=Download%20OneDriveSetup.exe.,setup%20completes%2C%20OneDrive%20will%20start. There are scrips to deploy through Group Policy and intune etc. 1
cheaptonersucks Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 Thanks, the network manager tried deploying the exe but for some reason it didn't work.
dsmith8 Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Thanks, the network manager tried deploying the exe but for some reason it didn't work. What we did was download the OneDrive.exe from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/onedrive/download Then in powershell cd to where the exe downloaded to or right click + shift in explorer and "open powershell window here" then run .\OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers 1
cheaptonersucks Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 Thanks, we will give this a go. Just trying to avoid appdata!
bald_pig Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 When I come across this, I run the following: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OneDriveSetup.exe /silent 1
cheaptonersucks Posted October 31, 2020 Author Posted October 31, 2020 Thanks bald pig, we will try that.
Steve21 Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Just to check do you need to uninstall the old version manually? (Or is that more for belts and braces moment) I'm only in early days testing this for a roll-out at my new place, but assumed it changed the install location of the original version when you rolled out the allusers version Steve 1
cheaptonersucks Posted October 31, 2020 Author Posted October 31, 2020 Hi Steve, we tried just deploying the OneDrive.exe but it didn’t work reliably. The only way that we can get OneDrive for business to show up in file explorer (reliably) is to deploy Office 2016 again using the custom installer. I know what you mean about not needing to uninstall but we have had problems previously when we have not uninstalled office completely. Every time I post anything regarding IT problems I just get you replies stating that I shouldn’t be using roaming profiles with Windows 10!’. I know that roaming profiles are causing issues in Windows 10, but am only the IT Tech, therefore I don’t have the power to move away from roaming profiles. It’s a mess to be honest, as staff and students are not seeing programs in the start menu at times, but I feel helpless as I can’t change anything that fundamental, as I don’t have the power to make that call. Just a tech with limited access and user rights!
bald_pig Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 I work on the premise that it's a corrupt install, so will run an uninstall to clear up any remnants before starting fresh. I've had too many headaches that were solved by running an uninstall first! 1
