windows update rebooting without warning

I've now seen it myself, some windows machines just logout and reboot without warning. I've check my update settings I use 4 download and automatically install BUT I have set office hours and I've checked the box to not reboot while a user is logged in.. The policy is applied but ignored.

 

I've made a changes to the GPO to extend the office hours but people at home are being booted without warning or governors meeting that run long. (so this is mostly happening outside the office hours)

 

It's not offering the old "you'll be logged out soon" dialog it just happens! I've now set the option to 3 download and tell, but this means users will have to do the updates (which they won't)

Are you using WSUS with an automatic approval rule that includes a deadline? If an update needing a restart hits a deadline set by WSUS, that will trump any of the client settings you've get sot via Group Policy with regard to not restarting with logged-in users, etc.

WSUS died a few years ago and my rebuilt wsus die after only a month. I decided to allow P2P updates and let the Clients sort themselves out.
