I had a chat with Paul earlier and as you can imagine, he is very busy, being pretty much the only (current) person with Zoom in the UK handling education.

He is very aware that GDPR/DP/CP is uppermost on your minds and is trying to get you the information you requested, but please understand he can't be everywhere at once.

In the meantime, if you need to read up on their policies I'm digging out what I can now:

So is Paul's task to gather requirements / feature requests to better fit Zoom for the (UK) education marketplace? Google (and probably Microsoft, although I don't use their system day-to-day so I'm not sure) have added various features to Meet over the past few months to better fit it to use in UK schools, I assume based on usage and feedback from users / administrators. It sounds like Zoom are aiming for the same process - refinements to ease any administrative burden of using Zoom within a school setting.

Paul: is there some advantage to using Zoom from within GSuite? I could understand if a school had decided that they wanted to avoid having to use Microsoft / Google logins, but if we're already set up with GSuite logins then the easiest option is going to be to go with Gogole's nicely integrated Meet solution, there'd have to be a compelling reason to have to set up a separate video system (better sound / video quality / some other feature not available on othe platforms?).

I am not tasked to gather requirements / features etc. - I lead UK schools for Zoom and my aim is to reach out to this community to offer support as I can see many 1000s of schools are already using Zoom services.

We integrate with both Microsoft and Google. https://zoomappdocs.docs.stoplight.io/zoom-for-google-calendar

Hi PaulZoom,

At the moment we're using the Free education account (without the 40 minute restriction). Are there any current plans re-impose the restrictions on these accounts in the near/medium future.

The second camera thing looks interesting. When dhicks mentioned it my first thought was visualizers. Is this available on the free accounts?

Thanks!

*No current plans this year - Free Program should be extended to July 2021. Note: this is all subject to change. I will update for sure when I receive my updates.

We integrate with both Microsoft and Google.

Is there a non-Google / Microsoft stack of school-related applications you already integrate with, for schools looking for an alternative, or would it up to each individual school to piece together a solution?

For the schools that are using Zoom integrated with Google, do you have any idea why that is or what advantages those schools are finding?

Paul I sense your frustration, but I don’t think you’re helping yourself here.

You keep saying that you are happy to answer questions, but you aren’t giving detail on the questions you are asked. It may be obvious to you, but it isn’t to those asking the questions. School IT staff, who are the majority in this forum, need the detail in order to understand the impact of anything new on their network and on their responsibilities under Safeguarding and Data Protection law.

At the moment, I personally am seeing a politician’s answers. You appear to be answering what you want to answer rather than going into the detail of what was asked.

It would also be helpful if you couched your answers in UK language. K-12 is American. UK schools don’t use that language. If a vendor or supplier isn’t talking the language of the country it’s attempting to market to then it will be regarded with suspicion that it doesn’t grasp the framework under which that country’s schools are legally required to operate.

Maybe this isn't working, Its very difficult reading all the individual requests and responding accordingly at the same time as dealing with all the inbound activity. I will speak to Chris and support in a different way. Thank you.

I'm already chatting with Zoom about updating the DPIA that we worked on that the team in Derbyshire published

https://schoolsnet.derbyshire.gov.uk/site-elements/documents/administration/dpia-covid-19-zoom-and-microsoft-teams.docx

I've also dropped @PaulZoom a line to connect too. @Dos_Box can we have a chat tomorrow?

TBH I think people are being a bit hard on him

It sounds like he is trying to do a bit extra to help on top of all the stuff hitting him from all directions at the moment

so we can only reasonably expect an answer in a day or so - not sooner

so - great that he is trying - but maybe this is not the best place at the moment

maybe Chris can make some arrangements so that the people with the worst problems can use private messages to sort out the details over a period of time

then the answers can be put here for reference

anyway - Thanks for trying @PaulZoom
