BlueSkies Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Hi there, One of our teachers set an assignment in Google Classrooms asking for photos to be uploaded. When she goes to the assignment in the classroom she can see that all the class have "handed in" and some pupils have handed in more than one photo (and it says under their name how many attachments there are). This all looks fine - however, when she goes into the Class Drive folder, there looks to be at least one pupil who has numerous photos in the folder - however on the assignment, it only shows as 1 photo handed in?! I can't see what might have happened? Could it be that some pupils attached multiple photos, then handed in, then unsubmitted, removed some photos and then handed-in again? Also, some of the photos in the Class Drive have the teacher as the owner, but some have the pupil as the owner (all pupils show as having handed-in). What causes the ownership of the photo change? Is it the "handing in" process? I did suggest that the teacher creates a blank Google Doc for each pupil to paste their photos into and then hand in, however the teacher thought it would be easier for the pupils to just upload photos ... which I guess it is, but I just can't explain what I see in the Class Drive folder as opposed to what the Assignment! Can anyone help to shed any light?
gpjt Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 That's correct! Each time any student/staff member uploads then the file resides within the relevant folder within Google Drive. It will show both in the Students Drive and also Teachers Drive attached to their Class folder. I think that the ownership of the file relates to who uploaded it and believe you're correct that the handing in process allows teachers to view/edit etc. (i maybe wrong though) 1

I can see all sorts of potential for confusion there!! Ah well, I think I might suggest the Google Doc and paste photos into it for next time! As Admin, am I able to see into the pupils' My Drive folders?

As Admin, am I able to see into the pupils' My Drive folders? The files should be available in the assignment folder that is created in Google Drive and the Teacher will have access. I guess it's the pupil uploading the image, changing their mind because they have a better one and uploading a new one. They may think they have deleted the other photo, but in reality the file itself still resides in the Drive folder and they have only removed the link to it and not the actual file if that makes sense? We have resources uploaded specifically with sections set out for the tasks for example 'insert a picure into this box' so that it is within the file that they turn in. This requires the allocation of the assignment to be set as 'send a copy to each student' when the teacher posts it. As for Admin access, the only way you would have access is if the folder is shared to you by the user or you 'access' the account with the login details. But you can see the pupils file they are working on if allocated in Classroom by going to the people tab and clicking on the pupil.
