ashdent Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Hi all, I have a special needs school who require an alternative to Hector the Dolphin for all their new Windows 10 machines. Does anyone have a solution? If it has to be purchased that is fine Thanks
Norphy Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 It might be helpful if you told us what Hector the Dolphin does for you?
DJ-1701 Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Is this the Hector you speak of? HECTOR'S WORLD SAFETY BUTTON? | Hector's World Information Island Never heard of anything like that.
ashdent Posted October 12, 2020 Author Posted October 12, 2020 Apologies, I perhaps wrongly assumed it was commonly used. Its a very light bit of software deployed on the network which displays a button (Dolphin) in the top right of the screen. If a child sees something they don't like, they can click it and it will cover the screen
synaesthesia Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Thats the one - it's a swimming dolphin icon (Flash) that floats top right of the screen so if you (a child) sees something nasty, you click it and it hides the screen and prompts you to fetch an adult.

ashdent Posted October 12, 2020 Author Posted October 12, 2020 Thanks, I did roll that out to the school but the teacher asking for it has said it isnt suitable :/
Michael Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 I've had Hector running for years on Windows 10 LTSB. Top of my head I just install the application, then create a registry entry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run "Hector"=""C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Hector's World\\Hector\\Hector.exe""
Norphy Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 The fact that the linked page suggests it's based on Flash is a bigger problem I think 1
DJ-1701 Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 The fact that the linked page suggests it's based on Flash is a bigger problem I think Most definitely, as I have installed the Vista version on my Windows 10 machine and it works. For those who have never seen this before as I did not till now, it's a dolphin on the screen in an animation of swimming in place with transparent background which lays on top of your windows. If you right click or left click on it, it loads a flash animation of a dolphin swimming with a black boarder at the top and bottom, the top reading 'Well done!!! I'll keep the screen covered until an adult can come and help you. Remember, I'll always be there to help when you need me.' and the bottom having an X in a circle to quit. There is also audio during this screen that sounds like someone breathing bubbles out underwater.
