Very sad. I hadn't realised until I heard it on the radio as apprently it's not big enough news to put on the BBC News homepage.

Time to get Spotify playlists sorted out tonight I think.

RIP Eddie, you made my teen years fun!

RIP Eddie.

I really hope a new generation of guitarists will be introduced to Van Halen's music (and try to learn 'Eruption')...

Good luck!

Sad news, a huge influences on my guitar playing.

I remember being 11 years old in 1978 hearing the Van Halen debut album for the first time.

My friends neighbor was playing it full blast in his bedroom with the windows wide open, we were outside listening to the album with our jaws dropped.

He had just saw Van halen support Black Sabbath the night before and had bought the album at the venue.

We were all into KISS and Judas Priest but nothing prepared us for Eruption.

I went home and begged my parents to buy me an electric guitar, they bought me a cheap acoustic guitar just to make sure I wanted to stick at the instrument.

I spent hours learning how to play the finger tapping hammer on's using that guitar.

Years later I'm listening to the mix of my bands new album and I can hear the influence on my solo's.

I can never be as amazing as he was but his inspiration was what drove me as a guitarist. A true legend R.I.P.
