bodminman Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Hi there, we have a number of Sharp photocopiers here on site they aren't happy when trying to print JPEG files. When we try and print one, it'll go into the print queue and say spooling and will just sit there. The file never prints and subsequent jobs sent to that printer won't print either until the spooler is stopped and the JPEG job is deleted. Since the issue started, the drivers for the printers have been updated and the firmware on the devices themselves have been updated. Has anyone come across this or something similar before? Thanks
mavhc Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) Are the files just massive? 100MB sort of sizes? Are they going directly to printer or via Windows server? And do you have "Start printing after the last page is spooled" enabled? Edited September 28, 2020 by mavhc
bodminman Posted September 28, 2020 Author Posted September 28, 2020 Are the files just massive? 100MB sort of sizes? Are they going directly to printer or via Windows server? Thanks for the response. The files I've seen so far range from 1mb up to about 20mb and they go via Windows Server 2016.
mavhc Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Here it seems like they're not sent as jpegs to the printer, but uncompressed images, so end up massive
Koldov Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 (edited) We don't use Sharp MFD and haven't seen the problem before, but for troubleshooting... What happened just before the issue started...? Is it the same for all users, all computers and all printers? Are they all printing from the same application (or what other method are they using to print - right-click or print fom option on the toolbar) does it work from Paint, Photo Viewer or Gallery etc? Also although it shouldn't matter - do you use spool, print directly, or render on user's computer? In the actual printer settings for the machine, possibly a web page (not on the server properties page - although that's always worth looking through) does it have any settings that determine things like 'Image - Text+Photo' or 'JPEG - Fit to paper size' or 'File format - JPEG Quality' Can't think of anything else at the moment... EDIT: As per the above post by @mavhc - years ago we used to have a problem with something trying to print (unfortunately I can't remember what) but keep an eye on the print job in the queue, when it wasn't working it would balloon up in to a silly number of mb before failing - I think we fixed that issue at the time by ticking the render on client's computers or another problem we needed to use print directly... Chrisbf1 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 do you use codes or account track by any chance. i think i might know what you mean
bodminman Posted September 29, 2020 Author Posted September 29, 2020 We don't use Sharp MFD and haven't seen the problem before, but for troubleshooting... What happened just before the issue started...? Literally nothing. No driver/firmware updates done. Only OS updates on the server/PCs. The server was updated severa; days before the start of the issue. Between the updates and the start of the issue, loads of JPEGS were printed for ID cards and various other things. Is it the same for all users, all computers and all printers? All users. Are they all printing from the same application (or what other method are they using to print - right-click or print fom option on the toolbar) does it work from Paint, Photo Viewer or Gallery etc? I have asked the lady to try the various methods for me today and to let me know how she gets on. Also although it shouldn't matter - do you use spool, print directly, or render on user's computer? Spool In the actual printer settings for the machine, possibly a web page (not on the server properties page - although that's always worth looking through) does it have any settings that determine things like 'Image - Text+Photo' or 'JPEG - Fit to paper size' or 'File format - JPEG Quality' I've been through and altered settings on the machine but it hasn't made a difference. Can't think of anything else at the moment... I'll try this after I get the feedback from the different jpeg printing methods. Thanks for your response and I'll update this thread when I have more info.
MatthewL Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 What version of the driver are you using? Do you have codes on the copier? Can you print a windows test page ok? What application are you using to print the JPEG?
