maxrebo Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Hi, We're updating our supply accounts and I was wondering how other schools distribute supply teacher login details? Currently we handout all the details for network login and registration software by paper to supply teacher when they arrivve in the morning, This seems to me that there's a security issue with these documents getting in to the wrong hands in the classroom or getting left. I'm thinking of storing what I can on email/one drive? Would be interesting to see if anyone has a better way of doing this? Thanks

Thanks At my last place we set up 5 supply accounts that got reset every night to one of a list of passwords (let’s say Horse19), and these are automatically set to change on logon. Then when supply logs in they change the login for the day, and use it through out so no issue if paper is lost End of day it’s reset automatically again and repeat Same idea I’ll get setup here when I get some spare time Steve
MatthewL Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Surely the bit of paper is easiest, just ensure that the password is a random one on the paper they are prompted to change and once that's done that bit of paper is useless really.

How are you resetting those accounts each day if you’re using different supply staff? Guess the principle is least manual work required the better Steve
MatthewL Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 I would personally be creating an account per staff member, I wouldn't be using generic details simple as.
3s-gtech Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Yeah, I absolutely won’t allow generic logons for accountability, security and data protection. Despite that, still get “oh, we have a (obviously secret) new member of supply staff in today, can they have a temporary logon?” “No.” They do it because it’s an excuse for not having planned better and given us their details when they arranged the cover. The poor old supply teacher then can’t access anything when they go to cover lesson 1, as they’re not in SIMS yet.
Steve21 Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 There's a difference between a generic login (as in shared), and a number of separate accounts that are reused with passwords changed daily though. You still have the information as you know who's assigned that login on a day to use and if something's done etc Steve
3s-gtech Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 True, but that could be a faff when trying to work out who covered class X several weeks later, if needed. Depends on who keeps the records! Also doesn’t tie in to an employment record/dates in SIMS/MIS of choice.
