PSTN will be ceased in 2025. In Sailsbury they’ve had a trial where fttp now gets to 75% of the population. I believe that if you can get FTTP then they won’t allow you to order fttc.

 

Not quite sure what the 25% of the population do tho.

Have to say I'm shocked how many people aren't happy with VM - I've had VM for years and it's been stunningly reliable in a variety of locations (as I moved house etc.)

 

Virgin seems to be fine - until they have oversubscribed your area and not provisioned any extra capacity, then you are doomed.

 

I had about 6 months were the internet was unusable from about 18:00 until 22:00 and all they would say is "Sorry, we are working on it "

All depends on distance from cabinet.

 

We get 25/3 here due to distance from the cabinet. At times 4 people all streaming (we rarely watch normal live TV) it simply can't cope.

 

Xbox/ Game downloads are banned during the day (after 10pm only) and when lockdown happened I had to switch to 4G for video meetings as others were on video calls.

 

If I was on 80/20 and we got that it would be fine. No Virgin, No FTTP, No altnet at all. Just waiting for LEO or 5G to improve things then can ditch the awful BT line.

 

For some it's okay for others it's not and that's the problem it's not good enough as it's not consistent for everyone.

Like I say I've used it for a very long time in plenty of very different locations and never had the issues people on here are reporting. Family members use it all over the country and also haven't had these issues.

 

Have you reported your issues to VM and given them an opportunity to resolve them (I know this can be difficult with most companies but if you are persistent you normally can get through to someone who knows what they're doing in most companies).

Oh, its fine now, they provisioned more capacity - but that can often be a slow process.

 

My first conenction was back in the blueyonder days, and like you say, when it works it generally is ok. It isjust when it is not working it can be a nightmare.

Back when TalkTalk used to have their "Fair usage policy" (aka "for %deity%'s sake don't actually use your internet") daytime was fine it was 16:00 -22:00 that was limited (Used to get really good download speeds if I left stuff running while I was at work). Of course this was in the "Before Times" when everyone wasn't working from home.

Been with them for 15 years or so, with very little problem. A few niggles over the summer, and a new router sent out within a couple of days. You do however have to listen to a lot of "muzak" before you get to a human...
