CAPITA SIMS ADD-ON

We are a small independent school based in Calais, France and we are looking to purchase SIMS. We have around 100 students and wondering which add-on would be better Edulink One or Learning Gateway from Capita

We were also looking at Class Charts and Satchel One and our budget is around £1000 - £3000

It depends what you want the add-on to do? What features are you after?

Why purchase SIMS and then add plugins and add-ons for it to go to the cloud, when you could go for a cloud native MIS like Bromcom? (others are available)

Edulink One is by far the best addon for SIMS, but to be perfectly honest I would strongly suggest staying well clear of SIMS in the first place.

I have to agree with others - don't blindly go down the SIMS route, especially if you have already identified that you need add-ons to make it functionally suitable for your school. Out of interest, what age children are at your school?

yeah jesus - dont jump on a sinking, albeit slowly, ship - its a flawed legacy product that is costly and resource intensive to run and maintain. Would be madness to adopt the product at this point especially if you're identifying gaps - many of which can be plugged by inbuilt functionality in any of the leading cloud products, bromcom, arbor, isams to name a few. You may only have a 100 kids but many processes take as long for 100 as 1000 so you want a system that can enable efficiencies and save time not add to your workload. And as an independent I'd have ISams first on my list to look at as they evolved from that specialist sector but the others will also offer you more functionality for less money than Sims.

Sorry; major MIS = SIMS, Arbor, Progresso, iSams, Engage, Bromcom, RM Integris, Furlong, PA, ScholarPack, Schoolpod, CMIS, WCBS to name a few.

 

TALAXY is modular to make sure the solution is what the school needs and not paying more than necessary. It also helps if a school is in contract with a segregated system supplier. Example; they may use seating plan software so prefer contract to end prior to using in TALAXY.

 

A school may just require parental access to present SIMS data front end without Staff management. Another could use full functionality enabling staff and SLT to log and manage pupil data. Schools who don't have a MIS may need the timetabling option to manage lessons however if using a MIS, this data would sync into TALAXY so the school wouldn't require the Timetabling module.

 

As SIMS partners, we can also link directly with invigilation, exams; timetable and direct access to SIMS document Server.

 

A pick 'n' mix of features

In addition to all the great non-SIMS options already floated, I'd recommend taking a look at Firefly. Like iSams it was developed especially for the indy sector, I'm not 100% it will meet all your requirements for an MIS but you might find it's got a good feature/price mix for a small private school.

I would look at ISAMS or arbor-education.com. Much better / Cheaper

Really look at others before SIMS. We were a SIMS school for years then changed to iSAMS, with the exception of cover which SIMS did better we are much happier with iSAMS, things are generally easier and its web based so works on any device in a browser and not some clunky, bloated .net app. I don't have nice things to say about SIMS or Capita.
