[2004, 20h1] New Microsoft Edge - Normal Vs Enterprise

Hi All,

 

I've just built a new Windows 10 image with the new MS Edge installed - I downloaded and installed it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge - However, when checking to see if there were any new ADMX's for this today, I stumbled across the enterprise version here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/business/download

 

I was just wondering, are there any major differences between the two versions apart from one offering an offline installer? From what I can see, the enterprise side kicks in when you sign into the browser using your Microsoft Account - so it shouldnt matter which way you go....but not sure!

 

Before I go any further with a new Windows image - I want to make sure the version of Edge I've installed wont cause any trouble when locking down via GPO (just thinking of how Google Chrome works and how you have to have the enterprise version installed for GPO's to apply etc).

 

Any advise would be greatly appreciated 😊

As far as I'm aware the only difference is you can get an MSI installer off the enterprise site, and the ADMX templates, but the installed application is identical (I've used the consumer page before and then logged in with my Azure AD account and set up sync etc)

 

But.. this was on my laptop without applying any GPOs so probably needs testing.

Yeah there's no difference in the 2 versions. Its the same way Chrome works. They have a separate enterprise download that gives you MSIs to deploy instead as well as the GPO templates.

I thought if you don’t use the enterprise version you didn’t get IE mode?

 

Obviously this does not matter if you don’t have any legacy stuff that needs IE

Pretty sure there's actually no such thing as the "Enterprise version" of Chrome or Edge. They're both the same. It only becomes enterprise when you apply GPOs to it.

 

You can enable/disable IE mode via GPO:
