Dance Ejay For Schools HELP!

We have managed to create an MSI but it doesn't work for the pupils or teachers! JUST ADMIN!! Which is no good.

 

When you try and run it as anyone other than admin it will come up with "Corrupt Installation".

 

Does anyone have an MSI that will work with out this error or maybe a work round?

 

I have been onto empire technical support and they have been no help atall.

 

If one of you can help us a case of nice beer will be sent your way.

I added the groups for my teachers, support staff and pupils to the power user group on the machines that ejay needs to be used on.

Does that not give the pupil to many permissions? E.g installing software etc.

Run Filemon and Regmon and see what folders/files ejay touches. Then give the users the permissions on those files.

Depends on what your other settings are but this program is such a pain in the backside.

Not sure what ejay needs permission wise, it may worth being isolating a test machine and trying things such as allowing write access to things like the folder ejay installs to, or some such stuff.

 

Ejay is probably made without administrative levels in mind so (stupidly) assumes that everyone is admin, so either allow everyone with high access level (not recommended) or try and find out just what priv needs to be poked and work around that.

Guys, thanks for your help. We managed to solve this in hosue with bit of messing with gpo and some scripts.

It turns out that they followed this..

 

1) Download the epal.exe from microsoft. (I have saved it to the root of c:)

2) Make sure you know the path to the programs exe. (in my case 'c:\DanceEJNetwork\Dance2005_start.exe')

3) From the AD server create an OU for your app user, this user is created aoutomaticly created and is not able to log on to any systems. (in my case 'ou=App,ou=Myusers,dc=MyDomain,dc=local')

4) run cmd prompt

5) ensure you are at 'c:\'

6) run epal.exe /c:ou=App,ou=Myusers, /r c:\DanceEJNetwork\Dance2005_start.exe

(change locations for your own setup).

7)Now in your App Ou you should now have 1 user and 1 security group set up.

8)edit the properties of the user to make them a member of the 'domain admins' security group.

9)edit the properties of the security group and add the group which you want to run the program (in my case 'students').

10) create a shortcut on you workstation, when specifying the path use "c:\epal.exe /c:ou=Apps,ou=Myusers c:\DanceEJNetwork\Dance2005_start.exe" (change to match your setup)

11) WAIT! not sure why but when i first tried this it did not work straight away it took about 10 mins to fillet through the system.

12)copy the shortcut to somewhere the students can run it.

13) login as a student and test.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I have applied this solution but when loading the program using this method no one (students or admins) can see network drives when going to load or save in Dance EJay.

 

When run directly as an Admin network drives do appear in Dance EJay. Just not when using this method.

 

Does anyone have any ideas please?
