SteveSaywell Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 Testing out the latest Windows 10 version and seem to be getting an issues with roaming profiles where it doesn't write the profiles back to the file share/server. For a user logging in for the first time it creates the folder on the server but that folder then remains empty after log off. For a user that already has a profile created it seems to pull the profile down (haven't confirmed this 100% yet) but doesn't upload the roaming profile back to the server. Computers running Windows 10 1903 work as expected. Does anyone else have version 2004, with roaming profiles, who could see if they are also getting this issue? Thanks

Thanks Yep, I have tried roaming profiles with 2004, and get the same issue. Also know that there is an issue when you try and copy out a profile to create a mandatory profile. Think it's time to look at an alternative solution. UE-V or fslogix.
dubsdj Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Geez, I wondered when this was going to happen, thanks for the heads up. PS. Have you looked into the latest admx files for Windows 10? Perhaps there might be something in there.

free780 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I was surprised that anyone was still using these? When 1607 came out. Things like the start menu broke due to the way Windows 10 doesn't roam the Windows 10 store apps. I would look at just moving to local profiles. If you have particular app settings that need to roam, see if they can roam a different way. E.G Chromium Edge can sync settings if you have the licensing.
SteveSaywell Posted July 20, 2020 Author Posted July 20, 2020 I was surprised that anyone was still using these? Yeah we've used roaming profiles without issue on every version on Windows 10 we've deployed (1607, 1703, 1803, 1903). Not sure about the start menu issue, but Store apps have always worked for us as well. Expect for office staff, most others regularly roam between computers and wouldn't accept settings no longer following them.
beechwoodict Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Always used roaming profiles here and this is working fine for us on windows 10 2004 edition - saves all the info to the profile folder on the server, have you tried to create the profile folder for the user vis AD first before you log the user in.
