Hi, I have a client (school) which I enforce desktop lock out timers for admins and office staff. I tried enforcing for teaching staff but came to a bit of a conundrum.. If I enforce a lock policy after say 10 minutes, all is fine however it's not workable because teachers play videos in lessons and the desktop lock seems to assume nobody is using the computer and locks the screen. Is there a workaround for this?

I've found that just sort of the period length works best for IWB machines. For example 1 hour period would be 45 or 50 minutes. With a register at the start and normally a change of slide half way through the lesson it shouldn't lock them out.

Full screen video normally stops it locking but windowed doesn't.

yes I did that, but teachers have a habit of popping out of the class and leaving the kids the opportunity to access their computer. I just tell them they should always lock their computer when unattended!

Yep, if you find any repeat offenders, take a picture and send it to the head CCing the staff member in. Seems to get the point across.

Fixing the human issue is always the most difficult bit. I have seen plenty of problems caused when students get access to areas they shouldn't whilst using the teachers account. Causing embarrassment/questions for the teacher/staff member when they are found out as the audit trail goes back to their account.

a) we need a transparent lock screen, so things can be left on the whiteboard, b) have 2 policies, 1 hour, and 5 mins. If anyone finds your computer unattended and unlocked, you get put into the 5 min group.

I used to set it to 5 minutes.

Policy was: Anything that was static on the board that needs to be there for a longer period of time should be displayed using your display device's freeze function. Videos should be displayed in fullscreen, which would stop the screen locking.

That, or move your mouse.
