OVS-EES and Student Option

Before I make any changes I just want to clarify I'm reading our MS OVE-ES agreement correctly.

 

We pay for OVS-EES (Basic CAL, OS and Office pack) based on our FTE staff. We install the OS & office across the school using these licenses. With this we also get the option through OSA to allow Students and Staff to download Office to their home computer through their Office 365 login - which they also use to validate.

 

This doesn't apply to the OS (i.e W10) as far as I can see, and this has to be purchased for Students using the Student option?

 

So for us to allow Staff and Students to use Windows 10 at home on their personal devices, do we have to purchase the student option, and what would enable that for staff as I can't see it mentioned anywhere?

Why would you want to provide Windows 10 for staff and students at home?

New computers generally come with it anyway, and it seems the free upgrade from Win 7/8 to 10 apparently still works (not tried it for a while).

It’s just a question that’s been asked by a few people, personally I agree with you, it’s on a laptop when you buy it. But armed with the full info (and costs) I can show why we don’t go down this route!

It's a fair enough answer, and certainly not one that we've ever entertained looking at (otherwise we'd likely end up with staff expecting us to support it as well!). Certainly with the Office licence for home use, it's only valid for as long as they have the assigned licence in Office 365, so when you delete their account, the licence for the home installed version of office expires.

It was a pain enough when we had staff interested in the previous discount office purchase scheme before the free one came along.

I've never heard of this company or this scheme but I'll be interested to see what they say - seems odd that this isn't available via MS themselves like Office is through through the OVS-ES agreement?

I've got this set up. They will give you a code to give to students and staff.

I've applied, it just seems odd that MS don't advertise this, or even mention it! I'm assuming it all above board! :-)

Even the people at Microsoft in charge of licensing don't understand how Microsoft licensing works, so it's amazing that any of their customers are expected to.

That is so true, ask 5 MS resellers and get 5 different answers
