Google G-suite - migration to and deployment

Afternoon all,

 

We provide IT support to a local primary school in Suffolk. The school is contemplating a move from Microsoft Office to G suite for education.

 

I'm aware that there may currently be financial support available to the school to help achieve this and we will be working with them to encourage this approach. We do not hold ourselves up to be Google experts at all.

 

Does anyone have experience of a similar move ? If so, how did it go ? Pitfalls ? Impact on broadband capacity ? Good vendors to work with ? etc etc

The school will be provided the finances, and they are then expected to pay the Google Partner engaged with those funds.

The Google Partners were selected in a process between the DfE and Google, and they had to meet certain criteria in order to become part of the scheme (Being a partner being one of these, as they have to complete accreditations in order to get that status, and 100 existing customers being one of these)

 

You can pick a partner on the application process, though if you don't do that you'll be assigned one randomly.

Yeh, not sure you can use it to move from one clould provider to another.

Yes. If they're already on 365 and you have students that are already on the platform, you can't get funding to migrate. This is to setup a cloud service that you haven't already got for student use.

 

If you have 365 for staff only, that might be a different matter. Be best to engage a Partner on that though!

If this is just one Primary school, its not that hard to do the migration yourself. I migrated a school last year and it was painless in the end. When I did it Google were working on new tools for migrating, so perhaps they are ready now, otherwise there are some basic tools in G suite admin system.
