Moving content to next year's class teams

As we are approaching the end of the academic year, I am getting questions from teachers asking me what will happen to all the content that they have uploaded to their class teams. They want this content to be available for next year's classes.

 

I have explained to to everybody that class teams should be treated as temporary for the year and don't rely on using the team as a permanent resource space for the students to refer to.

 

I know archiving is available and I have explained that you should be able to dip into these archived teams and get what you need and copy/paste to the new teams for the year. However, this could be too time consuming on teachers.

 

I'm just wondering if anybody else is getting asked this right now and if anybody has any other approaches/solutions to this?

I did do some research into this which quickly became useless due to us moving MIS! The classes generated via SDS use the class ID from your MIS. Assuming you will be using the same classes next year but with different students, SDS should keep the existing class Teams and just change the teachers and students in them. This is all in theory as I’ve never actually rolled over to a new academic year, at least not while classes were being used in Teams!

Some classes will probably have different names though which could result in things getting messy.

 

I'm looking into the archiving method for this issue. When archiving a team the content of the team is made read only, but still fully accessible for both teachers and students. Also, when teachers setup their class notebook in a new team they will have the option to import content from an existing class notebook, including notebooks in archived teams. Last but not least any assignments from archived teams should be available to reuse as well, in assignments just click Createfollowed by From existing, then choose the archived team, pick an assignment and assign to the new class.

We were advised that deleting a team and then creating a new one next year with the same name can cause a lot of problems, so have named our teams based on intake year, with separate channels for different things, which means that the same team will follow the year group through their time at the school. We are a primary school however, so in terms of the number of teams we have and the way things work it is a lot simpler!

We're also keen to know if this can be done. We have an issue whereby new classes are created each year by our MIS (SchoolBase) and students are then rolled over into those. This means that all the work from the 1920 academic year is not carried over in into the following year (for example GCSE and A Level students). I'm going to have very upset academics if they have to move stuff over into a new team.....
