Two Schools accessing each others shared drive

Two of my schools who share a number of staff are requesting that the shared drives from each school be accessible for these people at the same time in what ever school that they are currently working in.

Maybe just restricting access down to a specific folders eg Health and Safety. They currently use vpn to connect to the other site, they are looking for an easier way to access the files.

Both use Office 365.

Is this possible? Any thoughts on how this could be done?

I would create a team in office 365 and upload the files to the team with restricted access to the team.

Separate Office 365 tenants?

 

Assuming yes to both questions:

Move the folders to SharePoint/ Office365 Group/ Teams for all users of those folders using the SharePoint Migration Tool.

Use OneDrive sync to replicate the easy of use of a network share.

Add the external users to the Office365 Group/Team.

 

This keeps shared network traffic, DNS hell, and cross forest permissions all well away.

 

We do this with .police.uk .nhs.uk .gov.uk and .ac.uk staff whose primary role brings them onto site for collaboration with our internal team.

 

 

Increasingly even internal web based services can use AzureAD for authentication, so (where appropriate DPIA has been completed) we can even grant access to other internal services too!

As already said I would upload the drives to Sharepoint and if the 2 schools use 2 different tenancy they allow each other to access them. Unless you have an RDS system in place and want to create logins at each site for every user.

 

Could get messy to manage. So myself I would use Office, or Google. - Bonus would be you also get data offsite and into the cloud too

All our sites are on same private WAN provider with site to site IP access and forest trusts.

We have a network drive same letter mapped at all sites for sharing resources.

Just to double check, for the sake of clarity, that these are both schools in the same

Trust and all staff are employed by that trust too?
