OneDrive on a shared machine

How are people using OneDrive on a shared desktop? Does the user need to sign in to OneDrive once logged into the machine?

 

Looking at options with include Intune at the moment, but I'm not if this is the route to go for the few desktops that are left that students would be using.

I use this GPO along with Azure AD sync. Automatically logs each user into the Onedrive client and enables files on demand so the drives dont get filled with everyones stuff. Works really well.

Nice, I had seen this. So the users logs in the machine with the same user as their OneDrive and it auto logs them in?

All the local AD users sync with Office 365 and the UPNs are set to match in Office 365 and local AD if they don't already. That way they just login with their username "tmoon" for example and Onedrive will log in automatically with "[email protected]"

You will need to get the ADMX templates from a machine with the Onedrive client installed.

 

Its in %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\(folderwiththehighestnumber\ADM

 

Inside you should find onedrive.admx and onedrive.adml copy these to policydefinitions folder on your DC and they will show up in administrative templates > Onedrive

Yes, you need to install it on client machines using OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers. You can download the installer from https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/onedrive/download

Nobody has ever reported any data loss but your mileage may vary. If it is a shared device my advice to users would definitely be to let the sync client finish before signing out.

 

I havent had to install any extra sync clients we just use the one that is built into Windows 10, however if you prevent exes from running from appdata in your environment you will need to make an exception for Onedrive.

@tmoon-mint If you use OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers it installs the OneDrive client to Program Files, uses that location to run OneDrive from instead of appdata.
