Koldov Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Got an email from one of our teachers today about Google apps on our iPads needing an update. Not very descriptive though as usual... "The Ipads are asking for an update in Google Classroom. Is this meant to run automatically?" I have asked for clarification as we have 2 sets of iPads - one set are quite old and running ios 9.3.5 - so I will presume it is these ones giving the error. We have another set running an up to date version of ios and both the apps section in the OU and the app on the device state version '2.2020.22202' which is the latest version on the app store. We also run Cisco Meraki as our MDM and confusingly on the Apps section for this OU the Google Classroom version says '2.2020.14404' however the Apps section on one of the iPads it states that version '2.2018.35205' is actually installed... I have got 'Keep up to date' ticked, but cannot find any information about which version of the app will work with which version of ios! Also I have found it only keeps apps up to date when the device checks in. Although I have done the 'check-in' for all the older iPads none of them installed '2.2020.14404' until I manually 'pushed' it to them - but is this the newest version I can use for them (on ios 9.3.5) and will it stop giving the update error message?
paulkerton Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 (edited) https://gsuiteupdates.googleblog.com/2020/06/update-g-suite-apps.html I think it's time for new iPads/devices. iOS 10 cut off the first three gens of iPad and the iPad Mini, so they're 4 years since they were updated, and 8 years minimum since they were released. [ATTACH=CONFIG]58471[/ATTACH] The lastest versions of the apps require iOS 11 and by August 12, 2020 at the latest you'll need the latest version to be able to connect to existing services. If your iPads are stuck on 9.3.5 you will be able to download earlier versions of the apps, but they won't support the API changes that they started making in 2018, so they will no longer connect to Google services. 1
sraper Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Just wasted an hour myself coming to this conclusion. Number of iPads. About half running 9.3.5 and the other half 12 something. All the odler ipads were showing an old version of Classroom. Tried to update them but nothing happened. To avoid confusion I have uninstalled Classroom off all iPads running 9.3.5
