TwistedHelixis Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 The staff use Google's G Suite dashboard https://gsuite.google.com/dashboard to access their G Suite apps. I have this link on our website. I think that in the past we had a bit of code added to the URL, that would complete the domain part of the email address for any new users. For example, a new teacher logs onto laptop, opens the schools website using chrome and clicks on the link to open G Suit dashboard, as they are not signed into Chrome or G Suite yet they are asked to sign in, but they only need to enter their username as the domain part was already filled in. perhaps this feature was coming from somewhere else (GPO????) Does anyone know how I go about getting chrome to pre populate the domain when signing into G Suite?

The reason for this is, I'm looking at setting pupils up in G Suite and the domain name is a bit long EDIT I am also evaluating GCPW, but would like my original post as an option. You can add custom URLS in here so that for email the users can type or click on a link that is mail.schoolname.org.uk or similar. You set up the details with your Domain Host. If you set this up and then have a link where users lick on mail.schoolname.org.uk then the domain bit gets pre-populated. https://support.google.com/a/answer/53340?hl=en That's how we do it.

For example, at the chromebook logon you would type and this would be interpreted as [email protected]? Does this "automatic domain" propagate to anything else on the system? Proxy authentication for example? I am currently evaluating a chromebook but DO NOT have the upgrade license, hence all my policies are user ones not device (as I cannot enrol the device). I think I need the upgrade licence to admin them effectively.
jmak Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 That's how it works for the login. Not certain for proxy, but don't have a system to test on at the minute. If you're evaluating, would it be worth spending the £20ish on a licence as you'll get a much better feel for what it can do? And you'll see more of the benefits available to you as IT support in terms of deployment and management.
caffrey Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Yes you can, It's a device setting so you need a licence We use radius for wifi and you can set this to auto connect using their login details - this isn't a machine setting so can be done without a licence (I think) Device Management - networks - wifi iirc

Try the below link, just change the yourdomain.com part to your G Suite domain and point all your clients there for it to prefill the address for you. I think I need the upgrade licence to admin them effectively. That would depend on the proxy, our smoothwall auths from the browser plugin that is enforced using the users login - so it should?
jthompson Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 (edited) You can prefill the domain on any Google login page by adding &hd=mydomain.net to the URL of the sign-in page. So, go to the dashboard page whilst not logged in and grab the URL of the sign-in page that gets displayed. Add the above to it and use that as your browser start page. Non-logged in users will be presented with a Google login prefilled with your domain. Upon signing in, they'll see the dashboard. If they're already signed in, they'll just go straight to the dashboard. The custom URLs are really useful too, although you're limited to using them for mail, calendar, drive, sites and groups. It's makes for a nice tidy URL to stick on your websites, etc. Edit: beaten to it! Edited June 25, 2020 by jthompson

We only had our education account verified within the last few days so the learning curve has been in effect; No radius server -yet- but our proxy supports radius (currently AD with NTLM fallback for ancient devices), so thats now on my todo list. Full AD sync with passwords, OU/group/user sync are already workingetc - I do not want to hijack this thread but the domain query was relevant I thought.

All the resellers have to go through a single disty, and it'll be them being slow. I used to process management licenses for a reseller within an hour of receiving them, and then it took the disty up to 4 days to get their bit done.

Unfortunately, they have informed us that they have missed the deadline set for the licences to be received today. The current ETA provided is Monday now. Please accept our apologies for this delay and the inconvenience this has caused
