How many of those features would a HT justify spending £21 per staff member per year on? They may only willing to pay £21 now for recordings because of the pandemic, the rest is 'value added'.

Off the top of my head:Outside of meet: Originality reports Security investigation tool Meet specific: Live-stream record video meetings dial in to meetings by phone create meetings with up to 250 participants were all features that we think add significant value and worth the fee when combined. Fine if that is not the case for your school, but as has already been pointed out to you the pricing is not ridiculous.

How much would you like to pay? How much did you used to pay for hosted email before Microsoft 365 and G Suite came along and gave you it for free? How much do you spend on unnecessary printing each day? How much do you pay for software and platforms people insist they need, but never use? America I guess it will also depend on what Zoom and MS do as well. If both of them extend their video-conf offer, Google are lilkely to follow suit just to hold onto their users. They're clearly interested in keeping hold of schools, hence some of these new fetures and edu-specific changes. I'd imagine Google's strategy is much more long term than just this current emergency. Long term growth that translates into GSEFE sales in years to come rather than making schools cough up now for a few months of continuity. If they give stuff away for free now, it will enable schools to commit to the sort of big post-COIVD shifts that Google want them to make. The more that they can nudge schools towards 1:1 Chromebooks and Classroom in every classroom, the more that'll translate into GSEFE sales down the line. 1

Instead he didn't carry on that sentence and cut it short. I have been asking them to make it possible for all meetings in Education to automatically save a recording to Vault. It doesn't need to be user accessible (keep that in the paid version if you like) but it would be nice to have a recording, even relatively low resolution, to save to vault automatically for Edu as a safeguarding protection tool. It would be a useful feature. Though I do understand the server processing time would make it costly for them to do that.

I read that Google post to mean that several of the features that I'd like to have available in our modest primary school will be held back for Enterprise customers only. I I know that I can get attendance from Audit logs, create breakout rooms with calendar appointments or multiple Classrooms, Q&A from Slides and polling from Forms. But I'm the lone nerd trying to encourage dispersed colleagues, who were stressed enough before they all had to start teaching Y6 in class as well as run their own classes remotely. The fact that they, and our families, have made a success of Classroom and G Suite from absolute scratch was largely down to its relative ease of use and functionality, and the speed with which Google have over-delivered on making premium features in Meet etc part of the free product (I know, to fight off Zoom and Teams). We don't have the tech admin support to turn audit logs into attendance registers or prepare lots of resources - perversely it's the smallest schools for whom some of the premium features could have the biggest impact. I guess I'm rehearsing an argument I should address to the Googleplex. But do older wiser heads here think Google are likely to hand out more of the goodies for free again, or should I be looking at Enterprise? paulkerton Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 The feature set is really getting much, much better with Meet now. I'd love to be able to set some kind of low res recording to Vault for safeguarding option, but most things are there, or will be there really soon. The temporary recording should be good enough for most distance learning needs should a closure occur again in your school. We won't be losing the permanent record till that feature is ready as well, which is useful.

I'm a Superadmin and don't have it, but my test account for staff has it. Only blur too, not replace as of yet. To be fair it hasn't been announced as rolling out yet, so I'm guessing it's purely a test with a few users across G Suite. Maybe 1 in 1000 or less! 1

We are on the Beta scheme so I've tried it a few times and it seems to cope fine
