Hi all,

Looking at getting the final bits of this setup ready for a summer migration. One of the last little puzzles is creating an alternative to the Dynamic Distribution lists we have on-site at present (picking up teaching, non-teaching and student OU's). Will most likely be going down the Department group and using this field to create the groups in EOL.

My question now have people generally opted for it terms of Groups vs DL? The temptation is to go for the newer way of doing things, but as I cannot see this particular group being used for anything but bulk sending email to staff I think sticking to a DL may be sensible. Anyone else consider the pro's and con's of each approach?

When you say groups do you mean security groups or 365 groups? If you're meaning 365 groups you can use them across platforms, for things like Teams/OneNote etc etc so might be worth doing that route if you're going lots of cloudiness

I'm still a fan of doing the older method though, a normal group with a DL assigned into the group, gives the option of adding in people just to emails if you don't want them to have access to areas etc (For example, a TA/SEND might be in an email group, but you don't want them to modify files)

I was referring to Office 365 groups. I think ultimately we will be going down this route, with more cloud working etc. but for now possibly setting up DLs for these three broad groups may be the most sensible.
