projector mounting - 4 point to 3 point

We have this mount-- which we believe is a universal mount - I have taken the arms off for a 4 point mount as I needed a much smaller 3 point mount position.

 

When I tried to mount it it the 3 point position I needed the middle part- which attaches to the boom arm is in the wrong position and points way off to the right.

 

do I need another mounting plate or is there another way of doing this?

It depends on the mount and projector, as not all lenses are in the same spot so some adjustment is needed.

 

Where we couldn't get mounts suitable for our projectors, we instead used 3mm Alu sheet (A4 sized) and used nuts and bolts to secure the projector to the plate, then the whole lot to the mount.

Which boom arm is it? If it's a Promethean boom arm I've got a packaged/brand new universal mount that I'd be willing to sell for a bit less than market value (we bought it for a job, and when we went do the install the client then decided they no-longer wanted a projector and wanted to buy a Clevertouch instead).

@Cazale There doesn't seem to be a manufacturer anywhere on this but i have the above pictures.

That looks to be an adjustable height setup, so probably quite specialist to the manufacturer. I'd be looking back to whoever did the original install to find out the manufacturer and get their advice, or ultimately get a brand new mount.

 

And if the purse string holders start moaning about cost, ask them if they'd rather spend a few hundred getting it right, or face a lawsuit when a bodged mount fails and a projector hits a pupil on the head. (Do a risk assessment, chances of it happening are low, but potential for injury is anything up to fatal. That focuses the mind quickly.)

 

I do not recommend getting a sheet of metal and making your own plates up. I appreciate the can do attitude, but by doing this if it does fail you are liable, unless you can certify that the work you've done is rated to the load required. Please do it right, protect yourself and your students.

That's different to the universal mount we have. I think the one we have is for Promethean +2 boards.

Its no problem, someone with a bit more spatial awareness than me- pointed out if I moved it across a bit it would fit!!!

We've had similar discussions about changing bulbs in classrooms where glass shards may fall on kids, the projector may fall etc. Those sort of hazards.

 

I always got moaned at and made to seem/feel like my concerns were silly. Well tough, they need to take it seriously.
