I've never used this function. I suspect it's probably writing lots of 0's and 1's, hence taking so long.

No, there was only the OS on the volume.

Just thinking, if I pull the plug, maybe I could buy one of these and then just re-format them on Windows at a later stage if they ever are to be reused.

SATA drives can be connected into SAS controllers.

Oh ok. In that case. Do you think I would be ok to pull the plug such that I can put in the new drives? I am assuming if the old drives are used again, the RAID will re-format them anyway?

I'd have thought so. I am presuming they're hot plug, but you're just as well to shutdown the server, remove them and install your new 2TB drives and build the array.

 

As you say, if you build a new array using your 1TB drives, these would be erased anyway.

They are hot swap so have powered down, re-built the RAID with the new drives. Just waiting for it to finish and I can get the OS on. Thanks for your help.
