Teams Question: can you prevent students changing their display name?

 

Unfortunately we've had reports of students causing disruption in our testing today.

Our users (including myself) are unable to change display names it seems, as we sync that information from AD and we locked down a lot of features in 365. Our students are not able to change their profile picture now either since Microsoft updated Teams in April.

Our information is also coming from AD so I'd be interested in what you may have locked down that I've missed that is allowing the students to be able to change their display names.

I'm guessing your students are entering the meetings as guests which would allow them to enter a display name when joining the meeting. You could try forcing all guest accounts into the lobby and letting the appropriate names in or just not allow guests all together.

Yes, that was the issue!!!

 

Staff have now been given guidance not to admit anyone from the lobby!
