Dual monitor, projector and sound issues

Hi

 

We've just set up a History teacher with two monitors, Smartboard and projector. Both monitors connect via VGA and the projector connects via HDMI. He's just come down to say his sound is not working - he's set himself up with a number of speakers/subwoofers! The issue is that the sound is now coming via the HDMI on the projector. Can this be disabled so it uses the PC sound. My head is not used to being at work!

You can set the default audio output device on the PC, depending how you restricted the station it might not be something the user can do.

I'm guessing the PC in question is running Windows 10? I've found that for some reason - Windows always rushes to play sound via the HDMI outputs if it detects activity there i.e. a projector or monitor. You can either route the sound by clicking on the speaker icon in the notification area at bottom right and selecting the PC's Audio output or you might have to go in to Sound Settings in Windows Settings and change it there. Once it's set and running - it usually becomes a "sticky" setting and won't change it again (unless you plug a different projector or monitor in to the HDMi Output)

On Win10 - right click speaker in tray, choose "Open Sound Settings". From here click "Manage sound devices" (under Troubleshoot). Here he should be able to see the projector via HDMI - click it and select "Disable". Should stop it from happening ever again!

The HDMI seems to have messed up the display setting too and the screen now only fits half of the Smartboard. Tried all the resolutions available but none fill the screen... Any other gems of advice?

Whole screen has shrunk to half the size, or cropped half the image? Tried an auto image on the projector?

The main computer is connected to it's monitor via VGA.

Projector is connected to the main computer via HDMI.

Main computer has been duplicated to the projector.

Second monitor is connected via DVI.

Smartboard is connected to main computer via USB.

 

It was all working as expected until we used the HDMI to connect the projector. There are no other spare VGA/DVI's to use...
