Teams SDS adding Classes/Sections that you are not the teacher of?

I am really hoping there is someone who knows the answer to this question.

 

We are pretty new to the whole SDS thing and a teacher asked how do I make a Team for multiple classes if I do not teach them, for example they want one for Maths and to add all year 7 classes. I say easy just go to add members and add the class/section. But no it can't be this easy it says 0 members will be added.

 

 

Surely its possible to do this? The only other way I thought of doing it would be to make a Team and then send out an invite code to the students but seems a bit silly.

I’ve found that Teams only lets me add 30 or so users - I have to make the Team then add the users to the group in the Office 365 admin centre instead. Takes a while for a whole year group, ticking them one by one.

Creating huge classes seems like a bad idea. We had the same. How then do you manage a whole year group? Staff to pupil ratios need to be considered. One company we use for remote learning have a maximum class size of 12.

Teachers can still be owners of several teams as imported from SDS and teach in them all at once if they really want to do that.

We have one lesson for year 7 science that's normally taught by the same teacher. The other science teachers were drafted in to support him and LSAs too.

As has been said, avoid big teams of students it's a bad idea. We created a SharePoint site per subject for 'General subject resources' which won't get archived at the end of the year. Generally staff create year group folders on this.

Thanks everyone. In the end I edited the SDS CSV to add the teacher in question to all groups of the subject in question. Seems to work okay.
