Extremetech have an article on Vista's new features and what they "mean to you". It lists some fairly compelling improvements over XP. They've written an interesting article which is well worth a read.

Interesting article. I;ve played around with the Beta but as with most things its a waste of time till they do the first release and service pack to get a good feel. The new backup facilities look good and the new kernel should (lol) be more secure.

I can hear the >root people laughing their pipes out of their mouths as the prospect of a new windows version.

Sorry, still not impressed. Most things there can be achieved with XP already or are simply features that have been ported. There's nothing in that article I paticularly would need in a school enviroment.

At home, yes, I might need DirectX 10 for my gaming at some point. However I fully expect it will be released for XP anyway (like a lot of Vista's other features).

Microsoft are ok, It's just their products that suck

To me, it's the other way round.

Microsoft: spreading FUD via their "Get The Facts" tales being one example.

Products: Windows 2000. It was just fantastic. Only bad thing is the boot time.
