Issues with VLC on desktops running Windows 10 1909

Hi,

we've recently upgraded from Windows 7 to windows 10 1909 and found that certain video files do not play on our desktops.

 

Normally we use VLC to play these without an issues but found that video files created on a GoPro ( for PE classes) won't play under VLC or media player on windows 10 ( 1909) but only on the desktops . On laptops they play fine and also have been played on windows 7 in the past without an issue.

 

the desktops are HP6005 so a reasonably old

 

I have tried :-

a) reinstalling VLC

b) converting the original mp4 to a more compressed version of mp4 files

c) converting to orignal to mov files.

 

This happens across several files and is specific to desktops.

Both of those players maybe handing off the de-coding to the graphics driver which is failing you. I had this issue with my AMD APU style PCs a while back with h.264 playback. I was forced to update the graphics driver on 90+ desktop PCs.

I think in the VLC settings you can turn OFF accelerated video output, this may force software decoding and fix the issue if new(er) graphics drivers are unavailable.

Open the VLC messages window and turn up the debugging for more info
