I've always used the Tripp Lite rack series, but want to opt for something like an Eaton.

Always used APC here, haven't even tried any other brands but they've always been solid and reliable for me.

We were APC traditionally but on the last campus refresh at a second site we put in Riello units which worked out cheaper than APC even when we added bypass units into the quote should we need to switch out one of the units while keeping the rack alive.

Apc here. Not had any problems with them.

(Even the dell rebadged ones)

APC here. The included netsupport portal is good. We have a couple of Triplite and Cyberpower for CCTV and telephone PBXt but they just don't seem as solid.

My problem with APC is the one model we have has a design fault, and all the other models use different battery packs, what's the point of sticking to one manuf. if you can't reuse parts?

 

So my question is which UPS supplier has better compatibility between models?

Eaton here, had APV before, never could get on with their software and were more expensive than Eaton.

 

Eaton now have own VM you can install, not looking back at APC at all

APC does have either a Virtual Appliance or Software you install on Windows both free to manage UPS devices. Think it is PCNS (PowerChute Network Shutdown), but you do have to have network management cards in the UPS.

 

I've had better results with the PCNS installed on Windows OS rather that the appliance. If you tie it in to VMWare it can even shutdown hosts/VMs gracefully before battery runs out.
