Moodle Modules

I am just wondering what modules you all use on your Moodle VLE’s please?

Beyond the standard blocks we use: book, myCourses, slideshow and nanogong.

Here we use:

A highly modified version of "e-mail" - Moodle: Modules and plugins

I think that's all maybe a few extra blocks and filters. We're still on 1.8 stable for reference.

I haven't got this up and running yet (summer job, I think), but it looks good. We're on 1.9

I've just launched Moodle to staff. I wanted to make sure that they would find value in it even before using it as a VLE, so I installed:

 

• Online Documents: to provide secure access to their "My Documents" and other drives from home.
  
• MRBS: so that they can book ICT rooms from home - this means they can finalize their plans in the evening for the next day.
  

I've also installed the Role-based HTML block, so that I can provide tailored resource menus to staff and students (and ultimately parents etc)

 

I've also messed around a little with "My Moodle", to add news items above the courses (only the header from the posts, with the subject text clickable to go to the full article).

Questionnaire or Feedback block (useful for surveys/evaluation)

Game module (best for KS3 -takes questions from glossary/quiz and puts into 5 different types of game)

certificate module (generates personalised certificate on course/activity completion)

We currently use:

 

Face-to-Face module - Used for CPD.

 

Feedback - Essential module i believe, here you can gain quick wins with staff who want to use the 'Quiz' module but find it a bit complicated.

 

Lightbox - Looks good

Slideshow - Has more teaching and learning value

 

Podcast Module - for languages

 

I've also installed another module which is more for the administration side of things, I cant remember what its called right now but if anyones interested drop me a PM.

The module allows the administrator to set 'Default' settings for new courses, this allows me to give more staff course creator abilities but also allows me to cut down the course setings page for staff as all the default settings i apply disappear from the settings screen for staff.

 

The settings are category based so i cant set courses up by default for each subject area and subject areas ICT ability. As they ask questions I allow them to control more and more settings to logically solve there problems rather than me doing it for them,

Module for managing creative writing tasks. Has several features that are particularly useful such as templates and a unique editor that minimises distractions.

Module for creating and managing todo lists. May be run in several different modes:

• Single - each person gets a single todo list
  
• Personal - each person may set up as many lists as they like for themselves
  
• Team - teachers/ managers may create lists and assign people to them
  
• Course - a single list for the entire course or group
  
• Social - anyone may create a list and invite people to join
  

 

Great for encouraging planning and collaboration as well as allowing teachers to keep track of how people are progressing.
